I think a chicane on both sides of the road & both ends of the village would slow traffic both in and out of the village. They have one at Broome/Ellingham in Norfolk which works well. This would be a phisical obstruction which is imposible to ignore, this would also stop H G Vs but 7.5t would still get through.
